become more lethal, and make our troops fight an uglier battle than we are seeing today.

a box of pigeons exploded Friday as shoppers gathered around, tearing through a busy pet and livestock market and littering
the blood-soaked pavement with human remains and animal carcasses. At least 62 people were killed or found dead nationwide, including a U.S. Marine.
Thirty insurgents killed in fierce Baghdad battles

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iraqi and
U.S. troops battling militants along Baghdad's volatile Haifa Street on Wednesday killed at least 30 insurgents and detained
35, according to an Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman.
The battle on Haifa Street went
on for eight hours, as U.S. and Iraqi forces fought to regain control of the mainly Sunni area, which Iraqi officials have
described in the past as full of "terrorist hideouts."

Bush: 'I'm the decision-maker' on Iraq troop levels

After meeting on Friday with his
new top commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, President Bush said "I'm the decision-maker" about sending more troops to
Iraq.
The president met with Army Lt. Gen. David Petraeus,
newly confirmed by the Senate to command U.S. troops in Iraq.
"My instruction to him was `Get
over to the zone as quickly as possible, and implement a plan that will achieve our goals,"' Bush said.
